TRAUMA-INFORMED PLAY THERAPY   /   PARENT SUPPORT

Children speak through play. We listen.

Big feelings do not always come with words. Play, movement, and connection can help children express themselves and feel understood.

Healing Play Co. brings a trauma-informed, relationship-centered lens to the work, with care for the whole family.

Ways we can work together

Support shaped around your family.

From early questions about development to ongoing therapy, urgent decisions, and court-related evaluations, we can identify the right kind of support.

01

Initial Diagnosis & Care Planning Package

For families with a new diagnosis, or those still trying to understand what their child needs. We start with a parent conversation, an in-home assessment, and a thoughtful review of relevant history and records. Together, we build a practical plan and decide which supports may be helpful alongside our work, such as OT, speech and language therapy, school services, or a neuropsychological evaluation.

02

In-home therapy

Ongoing, relationship-centered therapy in the setting where everyday life happens. Sessions can focus on regulation, play, sensory and motor experiences, developmental needs, and family connection, with caregiver collaboration built in.

03

Virtual family support

Collaborative support for caregivers navigating sensory and motor needs, developmental questions, daily routines, and family stress. We turn insight into realistic next steps between sessions.

04

SPACE parent treatment

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) helps caregivers respond to a child’s anxiety or OCD with confidence and connection. We focus on supportive responses and gradual changes to family accommodations; children usually do not need to attend these sessions.

05

Crisis evaluation & family guidance

Drawing on 10 years with McLean’s crisis team, I help families assess urgent concerns and make difficult decisions when a loved one is struggling to stay safe or get needed care. This can include understanding options such as a Section 12 evaluation, a Section 35 petition, guardianship, and other protective steps. Together, we identify the right next people and services to involve.

06

Guardian ad Litem evaluations

As a Category E Guardian ad Litem, I conduct court-appointed evaluations focused on a child’s best interests. I work with attorneys and relevant collateral contacts to gather a balanced picture and provide information to the court.

The initial package offers clinical assessment and care planning within Jackie’s scope of practice. Formal neuropsychological, occupational therapy, and speech and language evaluations are provided by the appropriate specialists.

Payment & insurance

Clear support for the insurance questions, too.

Healing Play Co. does not accept insurance directly. I use Mentaya to help check your out-of-network benefits and, if you choose, submit claims on your behalf using the information from your superbill. I can explain the process and help you advocate for reimbursement you may be entitled to under your plan.

Coverage and reimbursement depend on your individual insurance benefits. We can review the available information and questions to ask your insurer before beginning services. Mentaya may charge a processing fee for claims it handles.

Meet the clinician

Hi, I’m Jackie.

I’m Jaclyn (Jackie) Winer, LICSW, a clinical social worker and the founder of Healing Play Co. I earned my MSW at Simmons University, with a certificate in Trauma and Interpersonal Violence. My work is rooted in the belief that children and caregivers do best when they feel seen, supported, and connected.

I bring a trauma-informed play therapy and sensory-informed lens to children’s emotional, developmental, and family needs. I work with caregivers to understand the whole child: what is hard, what is working, and what supports could make daily life feel more manageable.

When a family is sorting through a new diagnosis or unanswered questions, I help them make sense of the information, set priorities, and coordinate a path forward with the right specialists and school supports. My work also includes SPACE parent treatment, crisis evaluation, and court-appointed Category E Guardian ad Litem evaluations.

Frequently asked questions

Why in-home therapy?

Sometimes the most useful place to understand a child’s needs is where family life actually happens.

Why bring therapy into the home?

Office-based counseling can be helpful, but some children and families need more than a weekly conversation away from everyday life. At home, I can see the routines, relationships, transitions, and sensory demands that shape a child’s day. We can practice new ways of responding together, in the moments and spaces where they will be used.

This approach is informed by the history of Rosie D. v. Romney, a lawsuit that led Massachusetts to expand home- and community-based behavioral health services through the Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI). The goal was to make meaningful support available to children whose needs were not being met by traditional systems. Healing Play Co. is my independent practice, not a CBHI program.

Learn more about CBHI from MassHealth.

What makes your approach different from a traditional weekly session?

I think of this as a more involved level of support for families who need someone to understand the whole picture and stay connected as needs change. We may work in the home, include caregivers, review records, collaborate with other providers, and build a plan that carries into daily life. I want to be responsive to the big moments, not only to what can be remembered at the next appointment.

Can we reach you between sessions?

Yes. For ongoing families, phone, text, and email can be an extension of our work together. If a difficult behavioral moment is unfolding, you can reach out so we can talk through what is happening and consider a more helpful response when I am available. We will agree on how to use between-session contact and my response times at the start of care.

My hope is to walk alongside your family through hard stretches and help you find a way to the other side. This support is not a 24/7 crisis or emergency service. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or seek emergency care.
